Ca' del Baio 'Autinbej' Barbaresco 2021
Ca' del Baio 'Autinbej' Barbaresco 2021
91 Points Vinous
The 2021 Barbaresco Autinbej is bright, vibrant and effusive. A blend of mostly Marcarini with some fruit from Ferrere and Montersino, the Autinbej offers up scents of pipe tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers and licorice, all in a deceptively mid-weight style that is quite appealing. There's lovely energy and focus here. The 2021 opens beautifully with a bit of air. - By Antonio Galloni on September 2024

Ca' del Baio excels with forward, open-knit Barbarescos that offer notable charm. The Grasso family sources from top sites in Treiso and Barbaresco. The wines spend about a month on the skins. In recent years, the Grassos have begun to experiment with a small amount (10%) of stems in the vineyard designates. Time in barrel is 22-25 months (a bit less for the Autinbej), all in cask, except for the Pora and Riserva Viti Vecchie Vallegrande, which are aged in tonneaux because of the smaller volumes of those wines. The Grassos are one of the historic vigneron families in Piedmont. It’s great to see them doing so well with the refined wines they make today.
